The roles explained

This article explains the various roles that are supported by the Topsportslab platform and how they help you manage access to specific parts of the platform.

The Topsportslab platform allows you to have access to (or share your data with) multiple teams. These links are called affiliations. As a user, your role can change per affiliation. E.g. you can be a Physiotherapist in the A-Squad while simultaneously being a Coach on one of the others teams in your organisation (or while being an athlete in a team you have set up with friends to play on Sundays).

Roles only help determine what functionalities (pages) you have access to. All roles except for Athletes have access to the same level of data within a team. Roles are not the same as privileges. Where roles determine your access to functionalities, privileges determine what data you may manipulate and what higher level settings you may change (e.g. Team settings, Club settings, editing test configurations etc.)

You can learn more about privileges here.

What roles are supported?

The Topsportslab platform comes packed with these roles:

  • Athlete
An athlete has limited access to all modules. They can manage all of their own data but do not have access to team overviews or statistics and reports that contain data of other athletes or of the team in general.
  • Coach
A Coach has full access to all modules but have limited access to the Medical module. Coaches get insights on diagnoses and are updated about whether or not an athlete is allowed to train. Detailed medical information is only granted when the medical staff gives access or shares data.
  • Medic
A Medic has full access to the Medical module and limited access to the other modules. E.g. medical staff get insights on the training schedule of an athlete but can not manage the content of the schedule (unless configured differently within your team).
  • Physiotherapist
A Physiotherapist has full access to the Medical module and the Testing & Screening module but limited access to the other modules. E.g. medical staff get insights on the training schedule of an athlete but can not manage the content of the schedule (unless configured differently within your team).
  • Team Manager
A Team Manager has full access to user management, athlete profiles and evaluations but limited access to the other modules.
  • Scientist
A Scientist has full access to the Medical module and the Performance Management module but limited access to the other modules.
  • External
The role External is reserved for users that need temporary access to your team for consultancy, auditing, support, … By default the role has limited access to the modules. Depending on the need of the team the access rights can be overridden for this role to allow more access to the modules.
  • Nutritionist
A Nutritionist has full access to the Medical module and the athlete’s record but limited access to the other modules.
  • Mental coach
A Nutritionist has full access to the Medical module and the Self-report module but limited access to the other modules.

Managing roles

The role you have within a certain team (affiliation) is determined on the moment you are added to the team by the user adding you. Later on, the roles can only be changed by a Team Admin or a Club Admin (privileges).

You change your role you need to:

  • Be a privileged user (Team Admin or Club Admin)
  • Ask a privileged user to change the roles.

You can learn more about managing roles here.
